Theme

The theme of the symposium is “Making Connections: Building Capacity for Interpreting in Ontario”.


Objectives

The symposium aims to realize the following objectives:

To foster the development of spoken language interpreter capacity for current and future needs which will include looking at resources and needs with respect to structure, standards and training.

To showcase the LIS program and to celebrate, honour, and recognize the work of spoken language interpreters.

To build and expand on existing partnerships and systems of communication in order to improve the delivery of spoken language interpreter services.

To develop policy and program recommendations in order to improve spoken language service delivery and capacity.

To provide a forum to discuss the issues, challenges and solutions in the field of spoken language interpretation.

To promote public awareness and raise the profile of spoken language interpretation services available to victims of domestic violence, woman abuse and sexual assault.

The Language Interpreters' Services Symposium will be held on
April 20 – 21, 2007
at the Metropolitan Hotel (map)
